Castlevania’s Anime Producer, Adi Shankar, shared a Castlevania cover art piece [featuring the anime characters Simon and Alucard] via his official Facebook page in January of this year. The Castlevania franchise has been around for nearly 30 years and its popularity continues to grow.
Shankar is best known for producing well-received bootleg versions of popular franchises. Such as The Punisher (Dirty Laundry), Venom: Truth in Journalism, Judge Dredd: Superfiend, Power/Rangers & James Bond: In Service of Nothing. He has recently dubbed Castlevania one of his favorite series. Ever since he first played it on Nintendo’s popular Gameboy system back in 1989. Castlevania movie was always on his to-do list.

Frederator Studios ( Adventure Time, Bee & Puppy Cat )produced Castlevania and executive produced by Shankar under his banner, Bootleg Universe. The Castlevania franchise has been adapted for other types of media such as films, comic books, and manga. However, this anime rendition of Castlevania will be a traditional 2D animation. Which marks the first time for a video game title to receive this type of animated treatment.
Is Castlevania Anime good?
Netflix has released a teaser via Twitter showcasing the new anime. A teaser is a short montage of the show with the background music. The background music is iconic. There are several familiar faces that fans of the game will notice including Simon, Dracula & Alucard.
Castlevania is set at the end of days and tells the story of Trevor Belmont. Who goes toe-to-toe against Count Dracula to save humanity. A dark medieval fantasy exploring family, fate, bloodlust, and redemption; Castlevania is an epic tale for those seeking out adventure.
“I need to stop them, but I can’t control it. The thirst is too much… I have to drink the blood.” Trevor Belmont thought to himself as he looked up at the moon. It was full and round, looming over him like a dark omen, tempting him with promises of an easy path that would end in eternal damnation. Still, he knew that if he gave in to his instincts right then and there, he would never be able to resist again; once you tasted human blood for the first time it became impossible not to crave its sweet taste until death took you by storm.
Trevor had noticed these cravings earlier on in his life when they were less intense than they are now; back then.
Meanwhile, the official press release further added that this anime version of Castlevania will follow “the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself”. Trevor Belmont journeys through a monstrous castle in a quest to defeat the Lord of Darkness. It is loosely based on storylines from Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Which was originally released back in 1990 for Nintendo.
Is Castlevania Anime Scary?
The theme song sounds like something out of a creepy carnival in the middle of the night in an old, haunted town. I’m not sure if an animated Castlevania series could be scary. But this teaser has its moments that are equally terrifying and action-packed.
