Tokyo Revengers is a manga by Ken Wakui. It was published in the Weekly Shōnen Magazine from March 2017 to January 2020. In April 2021, it became a TV series on Liden Films. The manga won the 44th Kodansha Manga Award for the shōnen category in 2020.

What is the story of Tokyo Revengers?

Takemichi is having a rough time in his present life – he’s constantly pushed around, can’t seem to get his job right, and even gets yelled at by his landlord.

One day, he hears that his middle school ex-girlfriend has been killed by a gang.

As if things couldn’t get any worse, Takemichi is pushed onto train tracks by a stranger just as a train is approaching.

Right before he is killed, he is suddenly transported 12 years into the past, where he is back in middle school and part of a group of wannabe delinquents.

When they go to confront some older students at another school, they are instead beaten up by a group of even older students.

Takemichi realizes that his girlfriend, Hinata, is still alive and decides to change the past in order to prevent her death. He ends up saving the life of a young boy named Naoto, who turns out to be Hinata’s brother.

Takemichi warns Naoto about the day that he and his sister will die and asks for his help to save her. When Takemichi returns to the present, he finds out that Naoto has become a police officer and saved his life on the train tracks.

Together, they try to change the past to prevent Hinata’s death, but their actions lead to new problems with the Tokyo Manji Gang and their rival gang Valhalla, as well as the main antagonist Kisaki Tetta. The story ends on a cliffhanger, leaving fans wanting more.

1. Takemichi Hanagaki((花垣 武道)

He is the protagonist. He is not powerful yet always has the light of hope. It is clear that his aim is not only to save Hinata. But to save everyone and find the reason why MIKI and TOMAN became like that. His character is a bit childish, but he put forward his stand every time.

2. Mikey:

He is the leader of the TOMAN group. He is the reason due to which Hinata is killed. But Takemichi believes that he cannot kill anyone in the future. He has childish behaviour and also does not want to go to darkness. The story basically revolves around him.

3. Chifuyu:

His character is explained later in the manga. But the quality which impressed the spectators are its loyalty. He trusts his friends even after Baji beats him. We can see that he became a good friend of Takemichi. Like Takemichi he is also not powerful nor intelligent, but he is also determined to help his friends.

4. Draken:

He is an orphan. But he considered TOMAN and Miki his family. This increased his importance in the manga. Although the idea to make TOMAN is of Baji and its leader is MIKI. But to maintain this group is the responsibility of Draken. He is like an elder brother to MIKI and there to save him from the darkness.

5. Keisuke Baji:

He appears to be the main evilest character. Because whenever he is displayed on the screen, we can clearly observe his bad intentions. His personality is to influence everyone. He does not get himself directly involved in anything or a fight. In the start, he was captain of TOMAN. He is not yet powerful but has a personality to manipulate the powerful characters.

6. Naoto Tachibana

Naoto Tachibana is a character in the Tokyo Revengers manga and anime series. He is the younger brother of Hinata Tachibana and is killed along with her in the original timeline of the story. However, when Takemichi Hanagaki travels back in time, he is able to save Naoto’s life and prevent his death. As a result, Naoto grows up to be a police officer and helps Takemichi on his mission to save Hinata. 7. Hinata Tachibana
